The conjuring 9 frame

 1.  In this first screen shot of the conjuring we can see a point of view of someone looking out the window looking towards the family moving into the house. This shot gives the audience and brief idea about the characters as you can see they are a family moving into their new home, the music in the background is diegetic and is of the theme music for the film, this music adds tension and creates an enigma.  This is a wide shot. The car and the family is in the centre of the shot which shows they are the min focal point. The car and the clothes that they are wearing are very old fashioned and looks quite 80’s so you can tell its set in the older period. The image is quite casual and realistic. Ambient Foley sound of the car pulling up is used.

      2. The second shot I have chosen is a medium long shot, this shot shows the family moving into the house and bringing the boxes in, this shows what the characters movement is towards the house, this may make the audience feel nervous as the tension builds up towards the house, conversation between the characters is used to add realism to it.  The camera is behind the characters to show a point of view of one of the children characters going into the house.  The camera is focused on the woman in the middle of the focal point; this may show that she is one of the important characters in the film.

    3. This shot is a medium close up the woman is towards the left side of the shot which shows she is an important character. Low key lighting is used for a negative effect, as it shows she is more vulnerable as people are usually more vulnerable in the dark, the match is used to add danger as fire is seen as dangerous, the woman’s expression looks like she’s concentrating or trying to figure something out, in this case she is trying to look beyond the darkness and see what’s downstairs which creates an enigma. Foley sound of the match being lit is used.      

     4. This shot is a medium close up it shows the woman looking quite angry and driving very firmly maybe trying to get away from something, it shows the children in the back of the car blurred out a little bit looking worried and scared. Low key lighting around is used and high key lighting is used on the woman to draw the audience’s attention to her to see what she is doing.                                 

    5. This shot is a wide shot, this shot shows their environment in which is one of the children’s rooms. It shows the mother and the daughter in the focal centre point of the shot; this shows the relationship between the mother and the daughter and shows that they are close as they are playing together.  The blindfold on the mothers face represents that she is vulnerable as she cannot see. The colour red also represents danger which shows something bad might happen, this makes the audience feel on edge.   

   6.  In this shot a medium close up is used of a scary doll. Low key lighting is used to create a negative effect to show that an evil presence is haunting the doll. Makeup is used on the doll to make it look timeworn and creepy, to make the audience feel afraid cracks and scars on the doll are used to show it had some sort of past which makes it look more dangerous and scary. The use of the colour red in the shot creates a negative effect as red is often used in horror conventions to show danger.    

  7.  This show is a medium wide shot, it shows the married couple and the two paranormal therapists having a conversation about the mysterious events that have happened in the house, each characters looks quite concerned and concentrated so that are in a deep conversation that shows it is important. Ambient Foley sound it used when they push the chairs in and out to add naturalism and to show that they are sitting down as it is going to be a long serious conversation. The shot of the couple shows their facial expressions quite scared and worried for their family and shows the therapists looking as though they are concerned for them. 

   8.  This shot shows a close up of the man’s face, the man is in the left side of the shot which brings all the attention to him, in the background to the right side there are decayed feet hanging which is obviously a woman hanging dead, the woman’s feet look old and decayed so it shows that it’s a flashback of an incident that has happened previously. The woman is wearing an old nightgown which shows that the event must have taken place in the 1900’s as no one really in the present times wears nightgowns. The man’s facial expression looks clueless as to what’s behind him, but he looks like he is in deep thought about something. The scenery is outside so it shows he is outside the house of the couple where the mysterious events had been happening.      

9.  This shot is a medium close up of the therapist and the woman getting possessed, in this shot we can see some sort of exorcism going on, this shot shows the woman with a sheet over her bod which could show that she is dead and that the paranormal activity had taken over her body and her spirit is no longer there and the therapist is trying to revive her spirit. The therapist has a cross in her hand which shows religion and that she is asking for god’s help. The therapist looks very scared and concerned and looks like she is shouting and looking for help, this shows her being very vulnerable as she is in contact with the person being possessed. The woman is tied to her chair which shows that she is dangerous. Low key lighting is used in the background and high key lighting is used in the middle to draw the attention to them.
