Taken nine frame- Bethany Thomas

1 Medium close up of the character shows his emotion which we can see looks desperate and concerned. From the medium close up we can also partially see some of the background which shows French flags which gives us a hint that the character might be in France. We can also see in the background a tall building which can say that he is in a busy city, not in the middle of nowhere.

2. This screenshot is a 3 shot of three men who we can assume are friends. The three shot is a medium close up so we can see in their hands they are holding crates of beers and other items. This tells us that these men are looking for a good night and want to just hang out as friends. We can also see a house behind the men which shows that they might be in a neighbourhood and have turned up at a friend’s house, the clothes that they are wearing tells us that the event is casual which also says that they are not going anywhere formal and are just looking for a night in.

3. Shot 3 is also a medium close up as we can only see from waist upwards, but because of the angle, we can see more of the characters surroundings, the angle is more wider which shows more of what is above the characters head and around him more than concentrating on what he is wearing and what his facial expression is like. We can see that the character is in a café and we can also assume that he is alone because of the wide shot which doesn’t present anybody around him.

4. This is a medium long shot of the main character and his wife bidding farewell to their daughter as she goes on holiday with her friend to France. From this shot we can see that the parents are proud as they are videoing the moment and are smiling as they watch her go. From the length of the shot we can tell that the scene is based in an airport because of all of the brochures on the wall and the queues. We can also see behind the two main parents that there are more adults waving off their children so this tells me that it might be an event a lot of teenagers or young adults are attending.

5. This is an over the shoulder shot of the two friends getting their photo taken by a young French boy. The man looks really pleased to be taking their photo and looks as if he might be enjoying himself and the company of the girls, from looking at the shoulders of the two friends we can see that they are very close and are fond of each other because their heads are close and they have arms around each other. We can tell that the girls are still outside of the airport by looking at what is going on behind the man holding the camera, there is people streaming out of the building which we can assume is the airport, there is also a man in a suit which tells us that the area is built up and posh with lots of businessmen.

6. Is a close up of the main characters daughters face, we can see that she is on the phone looking at something past the camera so we can assume that what she is looking at is what she is discussing on the phone. Her face displays a sense of fear and worry so we can think that what she is looking at is something terrifying that she was not expecting. Because it is not an extreme close up we can see the characters surroundings slightly which is walls which shows that she is indoors, possibly in a bedroom.

7. This is a canted angle which can show that something isn’t right in the scene; even if we can’t see what is right in the scene the canted angle would instantly tell us that something is wrong. From the shot, we can see straight away that something is wrong without a canted angle so the angle just adds to the effect of what is going on in the picture. The shot is a long shot so we can see the character and where he is, in this case we can see the main character hanging of the side of the building and we can also see the huge drop below he’s feet that he’ll fall to if he lets go off the wall.

8. Fame 8 is a medium long shot and also a two shot of the main character talking to a man. We can see that they are on a public street that doesn’t look very well done up which we can see from the papers stuck onto the wall and the worn down shop. The two men look like they’re having a confrontation as the main character looks quite angry with character 2, I can tell this by his body language as his jaw is tense and his hands are shoved in his pockets suggesting that he’s refraining himself.

9. Shot 9 is a medium long shot of 3 people around a table; one is standing up holding a gun at point to the main character. The woman who is in the middle looks distressed and scared of the man holding the gun. We can see that the scene is placed in a family home and we can expect that this gun was unexpected because on the table is paced a buffet and it looks like the 3 characters were civilly eating together. The two men are wearing suits which suggests that the occasion was formal which makes the gun even more unexpected.
